08 Good to know

Your questions, answered.

Do I need an Inner Line Permit (ILP)?

Yes — Arunachal Pradesh requires an ILP for all non-residents. For Tawang specifically, there is also a Protected Area Permit (PAP) requirement. We arrange both the ILP and PAP entirely on your behalf. Share your Aadhaar Card or Passport details at least 10 days before departure. All permit fees are included in the package price.

What is the Gongkar La Lake add-on?

Gongkar La Lake is a high-altitude lake near Tawang, reachable by a detour from the main circuit. It is available as an optional add-on for Rs. 4,000 per vehicle (not per person). It is not included in the base package price. Contact us when booking if you would like to add this — we will arrange it for your group.

Is Sela Pass (13,700 ft) safe for all travellers?

Sela Pass is significant altitude and we recommend consulting your physician if you have cardiac, respiratory or blood pressure conditions. The ascent is gradual by road. Most healthy adults handle it well with proper hydration and rest. We carry a first-aid kit and oxygen support throughout.

What is the Sela Tunnel and when is it used?

The Sela Tunnel is a newly opened all-weather tunnel that passes through the Sela ridge at a lower elevation than the pass. On Day 4, returning from Tawang to Dirang, you will pass through the tunnel. It significantly reduces travel time and remains open during snowfall when the pass road may be closed.

How remote is Mago and Chuna Valley?

Mago is among the most remote valleys in Arunachal Pradesh, located near the Tibetan border in Tawang district. Roads to Mago are rough and conditions can change with weather. This is not a tourist-heavy destination — it is one of the genuine highlights of this itinerary for travellers who want to go beyond the usual.

What\\\'s not included — lunch and dinner?

Breakfast is included for all 4 mornings. Lunch and dinner are not included. Budget approximately ₹400–600 per person per day — food in Tawang and the higher areas is slightly more expensive than in the valleys below. Your guide will recommend the best local options at each stop.

What should I pack for 5 days to Tawang?

Pack heavy — thermal underlayers, a down or heavy fleece jacket, windproof outer layer, gloves, wool socks and a warm hat for Sela Pass and Tawang days. A waterproof jacket for all days. Good grip shoes. Sunscreen and lip balm (UV is strong at altitude). Carry a rucksack or mid-size trolley.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you cancel 30 or more days before the tour start date, you will receive a 50% refund of the paid amount. If you cancel within 30 days, no refund will be given. We strongly recommend travel insurance for trip cancellation coverage — especially for this tour given weather unpredictability on the Sela Pass road.
