08 Good to know

Your questions, answered.

Do I need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Dong Valley?

Yes — Arunachal Pradesh requires an ILP for all non-residents. The Lohit district and Anjaw district (where Dong, Kaho and Kibithu are located) require additional restricted area permits. We arrange all permits entirely on your behalf. Share your Aadhaar Card or Passport details at least 10 days before departure. All permit fees are included.

What is the Dong Valley sunrise trek and how early do we start?

The trek to Dong Valley begins around 2 AM from your night\'s accommodation. Dong Valley receives India\'s first sunrise — the first rays of sun to touch Indian soil each day, owing to its position as the easternmost point of the country. The trek is approximately 2 hours one-way, rated easy to moderate. A certified trek guide is included.

What is Kaho village?

Kaho is the northernmost and easternmost village in India, located in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, right on the Indo-China border. Very few tourists make it this far. Day 3 of this tour visits Kaho along with Kibithu and the traditional hanging bridge over the Lohit River.

What is the Golden Pagoda at Namsai?

The Kongmu Kham Golden Pagoda at Namsai is a large Theravada Buddhist temple in traditional Burmese architectural style. It is one of the most visually striking religious structures in Arunachal Pradesh. Day 1 passes through Namsai and includes a visit. Entry charges are included in the package.

What is the India-China War Memorial at Walong?

The War Memorial at Walong commemorates the Battle of Walong, one of the most significant engagements of the 1962 India-China war. Walong was one of the few places where Indian forces successfully held the Chinese advance. The memorial and the evening light & sound show (subject to availability) are on Day 2.

Why does the tour depart from Dibrugarh?

Dong Valley is in Anjaw district, the easternmost district of Arunachal Pradesh. It is closest to Dibrugarh in Assam. The route goes via Dhola-Sadiya Bridge and then east along the Lohit valley through Namsai, Tezu and Walong. Dibrugarh is the natural gateway for this circuit.

What\'s not included — lunch and dinner?

Breakfast is included for all 3 mornings. Lunch and dinner are not included. Food options are limited in this remote area — budget Rs. 300-500 per person per day. The route passes through small dhabas and local eateries.

What should I pack?

Pack warm clothes — Walong and the Dong valley are cold, especially at 2 AM for the trek. Layered warm clothes, a jacket, gloves and a hat. Good grip trekking shoes for the Dong Valley sunrise trek. A torch or headlamp for the 2 AM start. Carry a rucksack. Budget approximately two days for travel each way on long mountain roads.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you cancel 30 or more days before the tour start date, you will receive a 50% refund of the paid amount. If you cancel within 30 days, no refund will be given. We strongly recommend travel insurance for this tour.
