Crossed by the Siyom river. Ringed by cloud-covered peaks. Menchukha is one of the least visited places in all of Arunachal Pradesh. Five days into a hidden Himalayan valley — with a Gurudwara, an ancient monastery, a mountain trek, and Bukhari warmth every night.
Menchukha sits at around 6,000 ft in the Siyom river valley in the Shi-Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh. It is genuinely remote — the road from Aalo takes most of a day, and few travellers make it this far. The payoff is a valley of extraordinary quiet, ancient monasteries, and a Gurudwara that has stood here for decades.
A Bukhari is a traditional wood-fired metal stove found in the high-altitude homes and guesthouses of this part of Arunachal. Every night on this tour, you stay somewhere with a Bukhari. It is the difference between spending a night in Menchukha and actually feeling it.
Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, is believed to have meditated at this site in Menchukha. The Gurudwara that marks the spot is one of the most remote Sikh pilgrimage sites in the country. It sits above the Siyom river, and the morning light here is as close to sacred as any place on this circuit.

Menchukha is in the Shi-Yomi district of eastern Arunachal Pradesh, much closer to Dibrugarh in Assam than to Guwahati.
