Bumla Pass at 15,200 ft on the Indo-China border. Tawang Monastery — second-largest in the world. Mago and Chuna Valley, where very few tours venture. Six days, four vehicle types, two stay tiers. The most complete Tawang itinerary we offer.
Day 4 takes you to Bumla Pass, where India meets China at 15,200 ft. This is a restricted area requiring a special permit — included in this tour. Very few itineraries in Arunachal Pradesh include Bumla. Standing at the border post is unlike anything else on the Northeast India circuit.
Day 3 takes you into Mago and the adjacent Chuna Valley — remote, near the Tibetan border, and rarely visited. The Jung Waterfalls on the return are one of the most dramatic natural features near Tawang. Most packaged tours skip this entirely.
Built in the 17th century at 10,000 ft, Tawang Monastery is the largest in India and the second-largest in the world. Day 5 morning is dedicated to the monastery — butter lamps, ancient thangkas, chanting monks, and a view down the valley that requires no filter.

Yes — Arunachal Pradesh requires an ILP for all non-residents. For Tawang specifically, a Protected Area Permit (PAP) is also required. Additionally, Bumla Pass requires a separate Border Area Permit. We arrange all three permits entirely on your behalf. Share your Aadhaar Card or Passport details at least 10 days before departure. All permit fees are included in the package price.
Deluxe stay: well-rated guesthouses and mid-category hotels at each stop — clean, comfortable and good value. Premium stay: the best available property at each location — higher-category hotels with better amenities, views and service. The itinerary, vehicle, and all other inclusions are identical across both tiers. Only the accommodation quality differs.
Bumla Pass at 15,200 ft is on the actual Indo-China border in Tawang district. It is a restricted area requiring a special Border Area Permit — which we include in this tour. Very few commercial itineraries include Bumla. You can walk right up to the border post. It is the most politically charged and dramatic stop on any Northeast India tour.
Gongkar La is a high-altitude lake near Tawang, available as an optional add-on for Rs. 3,000 per vehicle (not per person). It requires a separate vehicle and permit. It is not included in the base package price. Mention it when booking and we will arrange it for Day 3 alongside the Mago excursion.
Both are significant altitudes. Sela Pass is 13,700 ft; Bumla Pass is 15,200 ft. We recommend consulting your physician if you have cardiac, respiratory or blood pressure conditions. We carry a first-aid kit and oxygen support throughout. Most healthy adults handle it well with good hydration and rest. Bumla is colder and more exposed than Sela.
Breakfast is included for all 5 mornings. Lunch and dinner are not included. Budget Rs. 400–600 per person per day. All package prices exclude 5% GST which is applicable — your final invoice will add 5% to the quoted price. Your guide will recommend local options at each stop.
Pack heavy. Thermal underlayers, down or heavy fleece jacket, windproof outer layer, gloves, wool socks and warm hat for Sela Pass, Bumla Pass and Tawang days. Waterproof jacket throughout. Good grip shoes. Sunscreen and lip balm (UV very strong at 15,200 ft). Carry a rucksack or mid-size trolley.
If you cancel 30 or more days before the tour start date, you will receive a 50% refund of the paid amount. If you cancel within 30 days, no refund will be given. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance — weather at Bumla Pass and Sela Pass can cause last-minute closures.
